Commitment and conduct of Club members

Club 1778 aims to be a place of trust, discretion, respect, sharing and mutual support.

1. Trust

Members come together with a shared wish to uphold the values of the Club, in its commitments as well as in its principles. Its foundation is the pursuit of Franco-American friendship, the understanding of the relationship between our two countries and the promotion of exchanges.

2. Discretion

What is shared during the Club’s activities is governed by the Chatham House Rule. The conversations, work and personal thoughts heard may be reported outside, but may never be attributed to their author without their consent.

3. Respect for membership

No one may reveal or confirm a person’s membership without their consent. Everyone remains free to speak about their own membership, but no one may dispose of someone else’s.

4. Respect for the work

The work presented by the Club, apart from regular notes, is protected by everyone’s discretion. It must not be disclosed outside.

5. Respect for one’s word

A given word is binding, and what is said within the Club must not be used against the person who said it.

6. Respect for the Club

Everyone contributes to the Club’s image through their behaviour: listening, good conduct and self-control all play a part.

7. Sharing

The Club is founded on sharing information, skills and talents. Everyone is invited to take part in the Club in this spirit and to contribute, according to their abilities and means, to the Club’s momentum.

8. Mutual support

Mutual support is the concrete expression of a member’s involvement in the Club. It leads everyone to stay attentive to other members and to help them grow.
